Hey everyone! For this week’s free blog I will show a video on folding reflectors, or as I call it a light bouncer. Being on spot feature we do news stories and sometimes lighting is not always perfect. So, that’s when the light bouncer comes in. Taking the light bouncer out is pretty easy but, putting it away is always a challenge for me. If you are having the same struggle check the video down below.
See now that makes everything easier for me. Not only do I have one method, but I have two! The twist and taco method will be very useful in the future. Hope you learned just as much as I did and an amazing day.
Hey everyone! For this week’s free blog I will talk about a public service announcement or video called, “ Dear Future Generations: Sorry”. I have watched this video before and I think it has an outstanding message that we can almost all agree that it is accurate. It is about how the environment is fading away and future generations won’t be able to see it. But in the end there is a plot twist so check it out below.
Now you can see that not only are the generations before making an impact that causes our world to fade away, but the future generation can start to fix this now. I feel like it’s a PSA with a twist. So, that’s all for this week! Have a great day.
Hey everyone! This week’s blog topic is the top three most important things that we learned in media this year. Since this is my first year I have learned a lot since I first started at the beginning of the year. So here is the most important things that I have learned in CKTV.
The first thing that I have learned is how to properly do a news story. Since our second quarter project is a news story I have not only learned from that I have also learned from competing and practicing with the spot feature team. I learned how to find a story, create a script, and how to edit it. I also learned how to get a story faster because of the STN spot feature practices. I really love doing news story now because I do them so much.
The next thing that I have learned this year is how to make an inside scoop script and how to edit one. Our inside scoops are on the air on FM97 and we inform everyone on what happens at the Kauai schools on the week we have. I have learned to always check for more information even when I have finished my scripts. Also, recording and editing a radio is crucial to making a good inside scoop.
The last very important thing that I learned is how to make a PSA. For our third quarter project we did a PSA. I learned the basics of making a PSA like having a strong message or the shots have to have meaning. It is also really hard to come up with a message because you have to think if you can relate to this topic or if you have seen someone struggle with it. So you have to have first hand experience to make sure you hit everything on the dot.
It has been a very eventful first year of CKTV for me. I have learned so much and I can’t wait to learn more and more. So that’s all for this week! Have a great day.
Hey everyone! This week’s blog topic is family night videos. At the end of the school year our CKTV class has an end of year family night where we show some of our best work. This family night I will be showing a news story that I have worked on with my partner Taylor N. It was on the Waipa Foundation down past Hanalei. Here are 3 reasons why I want to show this video.
The first reason why I want to show this video is because it’s an amazing story about how they preserve the Hawaiian culture with their foundation. I feel like everyone should see this because we all live on this island and people are starting to forget about our Hawaiian culture. The Waipa Foundation is teaching people even in the mainland about the Hawaiian culture so, everyone can learn about it and remember it.
The next reason is because it is such a wonderful place is to visit. Everybody there is so nice and were so open to helping get what we need for our video. They have such a wide variety of plants that have so many uses and while filming I still learned a lot. It is definitely one of my favorite places on the island.
The last reason why I want to show this video is because I want to show that it is possible to get your own fresh produce without the grocery store. In the video you can see all of the fresh fruits and vegetables and they can use it all to eat. Nowadays I feel like people are now relying on the grocery store to get their fresh produce when we have multiple vendors across the island that grow their produce right here on Kauai.
So that’s all for this week! I’m so excited to show this video at family night. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Hey everyone! For this week's blog I will be giving a update on where we are in our group. Our fourth quarter project is working on the Kauai Grown project. I'm on the photography team so we go out and take pictures with the videography teams and when there are events. So this is our update.
So first of all, what have we done so far? Right now we have taken pictures at the garden fair, Lin's Farm, Ono Pops, and the Kauai Mariott. Most of our pictures are not perfect so we always need improvements. But we have also found a way to sort our used and new photos in our drive.
Next, what did we do this week to make progress? So one of the questions we had when we had all of our new photos was how do we organize them and how do we figure who used them already? So what we figured out as a team was to make separate folders for each team. For example instagram has their own folder to store their used photo so no one on that team can use it again.
Lastly, what are some obstacles that we have when we are getting things done? One obstacle that we all definitely have as photographers is making sure everything is worthy enough to post on these social media accounts for the public to see. Everything had to be perfect from lighting to focus and it really has to make you say wow.
So that's all for this Kauai Grown update. I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Hey everyone! This week's blog topic is our Top Three moments from STN. This was my first STN and it was absolutely amazing! But here are my personal Top Three moments from this year's STN
My first favorite moment was when we got third in spot feature at STN. It was even a great experience just to enter, and like Mr M. said winning is just extra. When we were searching for a story this year it was hard but, the story that we got in the end was pretty good.
My second favorite moment from STN was getting to go on the studio tours. We went to the Warner Brothers studio, a Universal Studios tour, and we even got the privilege to see the Disney Animation studios! They were all amazing and I really got to see a lot of what behind the scenes looks like, and it definitely was cool. I never knew that some of the amazing places in my favorite tv shows were shot almost a couple of feet from where I was standing.
My last favorite moment from this year's 2017 STN Trip is just getting to hang out with my CKTV ohana. We went through tears, laughs, and even some screams on some rides at the amusement parks. It was really fun getting to hang out with them and getting to know all them. We definitely laughed a lot and it was really fun to see all of the other teams succeed in their categories. There is no other group of people I would rather spend my first STN with then them.
This year's STN Trip was amazing and I would like to thank everyone who made it possible. So that's all for this week!
Hey everyone! This week’s blog topic is STN! I cannot believe that it is in a little over a week! I can’t wait to see what we can do after many practices. Of course we are going to be doing other things too. Also we have our penpals from Castaic so i’m so excited to meet mines. So are a few reasons why i’m excited for STN.
The first reason why I am so excited for STN is because of the actual competition. Since this is my first year in media the only things I know about STN is from stories. I’m on spot feature so this year I am going to to be a sponge and soak up as much information as I can. For crazy 8’s I am on news magazine so I get to have a little bit of a practice for spot feature. I think we will do very good because I am on good teams for both of the competitions.
The next reason why I am so excited for STN is because we get to meet our penpals. So my new penpal is Beth because my old penpal Drestine is not going to STN. Don’t get me wrong Beth is so cool and I can’t wait to meet her when we go up. I’m really excited to give my gift that I got her. Even though we haven’t been talking for too long I feel like we have talked a lot for just meeting.
The last reason why I am so excited for STN is all the other activities we do during the trip. We are going to Universal Studios and i have been there so I’m really excited to go there. Also we are going to a professional basketball and baseball game. I guess i’m really excited to do things that we would have never been able to do if we were anywhere else.
So that’s all for this week! I’m so excited to go to STN and do everything. Hope you have an amazing day.
Hey everyone! This week’s blog topic is about our recent STN practices. I am on the spot feature team and for crazy 8’s I am on the News Magazine. We have had a couple of regular practices and one practice of Crazy 8’s. So, for the first half of my blog will be about our crazy 8’s and the other half will be about the other practices.
So, last week Sunday we had our first crazy 8’s practice. I am on a team with Erik and Evan and I think that we work well together. I think we just need to work on getting everything done earlier and making sure we have close to none mistakes.I feel like we can work together to find a good story and get it out there.
I feel like when we saw it all together I felt like it was pretty good and we actually do the contest we will be okay. Now I will be talking about the spot feature team. We have had a few practices and we have done a challenge together so I think we are pretty good. We have had some pretty solid practices and good videos but I think that we just have to find stories faster.
I think both of of the teams for STN will do good because I think even though we have only had a few practices we will still pull through and finish strong. A few things that I think we should work on is communication. Communication is key when you have a team that needs to get everything in a certain amount of hours. I also think that for crazy 8’s for our team I think we need to work on things like getting the five points or the voiceovers done faster so we can get the video to editors faster.
So that’s all for this blog! I’m really excited for STN and what it has in store for us. Have a great day.
Hey everyone! This week’s assigned blog topic is what team do we want to be on for the Kauai grown fourth quarter project. I feel like I could be on the photography team. So here is a few reasons why I think that I should be on the photography team.
The first reason why I think that I should be on the photography team is I have some experience with photography. Up in Kokee we did a photography hike. I think that I took some pretty good pictures. Also on my phone I have pictures that I have took from everywhere that I have went that had good lighting and a good thing to take of. If you look on my pages on my website including this one is some of my best photos.
The next reason why I think that I should be on the photography team is that i’m not that good at social media. Even though I have social media I am not pro at taking pictures and posting them onto the social media pages. Also, if I had to be on a social media team I wouldn’t want to be on the facebook team because when it comes to that I am totally clueless.
The last reason why I think that I should be on the photography is I just love taking photos. When I get to get the chance to take any kind of picture I am always willing to. With the Kauai Grown project I think that with all the farmers it’s going to be interesting to see what kinds of angle and shots we can get at their farms.
So that’s all for this week! I am really excited for this Kauai grown project. Have an amazing day!
Hey everyone! This week’s assigned blog topic is how we feel about our PSA. I finished a rough cut and you can find it here or on my third quarter project page. My PSA is on words hurting more then the bully thought it would. I think my PSA is right in the middle of good and bad.
The first reason why I think my PSA is right in the middle because all of the shots were shot on different days. The first time around when we were shooting I forgot two shots. When I went back to film the lighting and the background noise was bad. To top that she was sitting in the wrong seat in the classroom. So the last time we went to shoot we finally got the last shots and they were pretty good.
The next reason I think my PSA is okay is because I know and I have gone through this type of bullying. When someone calls you a name and everyone laughs along you feel really hurt even after they said it was a joke. For me it really hurt because it was not only that one person that was laughing it was a group of people. So, now other people can catch on and it gets worse.
The last reason why I think my PSA is alright is because I have a good script and TIAS. I feel like if you have a good Script and TIAS you have a good foundation for the whole project. Also the time you have to have it done is really important too. If it got approved and you have everything when it’s supposed to be done, it sets you onto the right track.
So that’s my assigned blog for this week! You can check out my PSA in my project section of the website. Have a great day!
