Hey everyone! Today we toured the Country Music Hall of Fame, also the Bridgestone Arena, and we watched a Nashville Predators hockey game. First, the Country Music Hall of Fame was amazing! I got to see some of the clothes and items that famous country artists owned! Now I have some new favorite country artist such as Loretta Lynn as well as some old favorites like Little Big Town. Next we got to tour the Bridgestone arena with all of the Hawaii schools. It was really cool to tour such a big arena. Finally, we got to watch a hockey game. It was the Nashville Predators against the Minnipeg Jets. Even though I don’t watch hockey it was exciting to watch.
Hey everyone! Today is day 2 of our STN trip and today we went to the historic Studio B, the Nissan Stadium, and the Wild Horse Saloon. First we got to visit Studio B and it has a pretty cool history. Many famous artists like Elvis and Dolly Parton have recorded there. We even got to learn a little secret about Elvis’s song Lonesome night and it was cool to see the room it was recorded in too! Next we got to explore the Nissan Stadium, a.k.a the home of the Tennessee Titans. Marcus Mariota, the quarterback for the Titans is also from Hawaii. We even got to go into the locker room and we got to take a picture with his locker. I remember watching him when he played in college for the Oregon Ducks so it was cool to see where he plays his games now in the NFL. Finally, we got to go to the Wild Horse Saloon in downtown Nashville where I met my pen pal Angelina and line danced the night away. Angelina is so nice and it was good to see Beth my pen pal from last year. It was so, so fun to line dance and we even got to line dance to live band called Two Way Crossing. I love their music and I might listen it now!
Hey everyone! Today was Crazy 8’s and boy was it crazy hence the name. We started the morning not so strongly. Me and my partner Ty called what felt like thousands of places before we found our story at Red Rock Tileworks. Our topic for news magazine was rock this town. We were given the idea of actually “rocking” the town with tiles. The people there were super nice and gave us really good answers to our questions. We got back and finished our news story. I felt like I had a special job today because I helped to edit the whole news magazine. Also today we went to the opening ceremony. It was so inspiring to hear from the student of the year Sara and all the of the experiences she had when she was in high school.
Hey everyone. Today was my spot feature competition. Me and my partner Mia had 6 hours to shoot and produce a news story. Our topic was Power Of The Dream and we didn’t start of all that great. We asked lots of people and got rejected but a group of ladies from California agreed to do the interview. They were so nice and we are so thankful for them. So we made our way up to the editing room and we turned the video in on time!
Hey everyone! Today we went to breakout sessions and went to a St. Patrick’s party. We went to a breakout sessions and at breakout sessions different people in the media business come to talk about different parts of media. My favorite breakout session was by Rae Kanoa. She competed at STN and she was on the React YouTube channel for about four years. She also does films and YouTube and that’s maybe what I want to do one day. After that we went to dinner at Cracker Barrel which was really good. Finally we went to the St. Patrick’s day party and danced the night away!
Hey everyone! Today was closing ceremony and we went shopping at the mall. At the closing ceremony they give out awards for the different competitions. Our school got second place for spot feature which is my competition with my partner Mia, third for PSA, honorable mentions for Anchoring, and first place for Crazy 8’s News Magazine! I got to go on stage to get the award with Ty and it was the highlight of my STN. After all of the excitement of closing ceremony, we went to the mall to shop.
Hey everyone. Today we traveled to Boston! We got up early in the morning to travel to New York and we even got to see some famous landmarks like the Statue of Liberty. Then we made it to Boston and it was FREEZING. I hope I don’t freeze to death haha.
Hey everyone! Today we got to tour the Harvard Square and we got to meet some kids from Norwood High School. We first got to ride a train to the Harvard square. It was different and fun to ride on because we don’t have anything like that on Kauai. When we got there we met up with a student who attends Harvard, Kahunui. She is from Hawaii and she got a full scholarship to Harvard. We got to tour the campus and we got to ask her our burning questions. I was really inspired today because she is someone from where I live and she worked hard to get where she is now. Later that day we got to meet some high schoolers from Norwood High School. They were very nice and fun to talk to.
Hey everyone! Today we got to explore, help with the morning announcements, and play in the snow at Norwood. We got up early and we got to help out with the morning announcements at Norwood High School. Their studio is amazing it really big and beautiful. To my surprise me and my spot feature partner Mia got to show our video on the morning announcements. Also one of their anchors Tim asked us a few questions about the video and our time in Norwood. After that we toured part of their beautiful school. We got to present in front of a couple of high schoolers about our island, school, and program. It was fun to interact with them and answer their questions. After that we got to put on snow shoes which are really big slipper looking things that let stay on top of the snow. We got to run around in them and have races. I have to admit I fell a few times with those big things on my feet but I caught on later on. After we were done with the Norwood High School we went down to the Patriot Place to eat and shop. Now I am waiting for the snow to fall so we can play in it.
Hey everyone! Today we didn’t get to go to Concord Middle School :(, but we got to play in the snow and check out downtown Boston. Today we got to play in the snow two times and both times we had snowball fights. I had so much fun even though afterwards I was soaking wet. After we rested for a little we went downtown and quickly looked at some of America’s history.
Hey everyone! Today we went to an ice skating rink and a mall. I am so sad that we are leaving tomorrow. I want to thank Mr. Matsunaga, the chaperones, and everyone in the media class for making this 2018 STN a blast. This has been an amazing learning experience getting to learn about various media topics and how other school’s media classes function. Well that’s all for this STN, see you next time.
